Every unforgettable story contains five core ingredients:

  1. Plot – The sequence of events that make up the story

  2. Character – The people or beings that the story revolves around

  3. Setting – The time and place where the story unfolds

  4. Conflict – The problem or challenge the character faces

  5. Resolution – The outcome or transformation that occurs

Think of these elements as the skeleton of a story. Without them, your narrative lacks shape and meaning.

Example:

Let’s take Finding Nemo:

  • Plot: A clownfish father travels across the ocean to rescue his son.

  • Character: Marlin (father), Nemo (son), Dory (sidekick)

  • Setting: The Great Barrier Reef, the ocean, a dentist’s aquarium

  • Conflict: Nemo is captured by divers; Marlin must overcome his fears

  • Resolution: Marlin finds Nemo, and both grow emotionally
